honeymoon fantasies

Today I'm dreaming of a 'tropical paradise' honeymoon, somewhere where the sun is shining and all I can see is palm trees and the ocean!

Last year we visited the beautiful island of Maui and I fell in love. Maui is the ultimate honeymoon destination, the perfect place to relax, unwind and enjoy each other's company. We stayed at a beautiful resort in Maui called the Grand Wailea. Pictured below, the resort blew my mind and was quite possibly the nicest place I have ever visited. The rooms were so plush (definitely worth splurging on an ocean view room) and the grounds were brimming with palm trees, tropical flowers and beautiful architecture.

One of the pool areas - my favourite spot

Inside the lobby - so lush and green

The spa at the Grand Wailea has won so many awards and is an amazing experience. Before your spa treatment you are lead into a hydrotherapy room featuring a roman tub, waterfalls, swiss jet showers, a Japanese furo and five specialty salt baths. After your treatment you are lead to a balcony to relax and unwind with tea, fruit and beautiful views. Expensive, but a once-in-a-lifetime experience that is definitely worth spending money on.

The specialty salt baths - all contain different healing properties

The restaurants on the grounds are also amazing - we enjoyed dinners at the award-winning Humuhumunukunukuapua restaurant and Alan Wong's Amasia - an Asian style fusion tapas restaurant.

For daytime activities, you can simply relax by the pool, enjoy a cocktail in the underwater grotto or participate in one of the tours/water activities offered poolside. My fiancé went stand up paddleboarding one morning and had such an amazing experience. As the morning was so clear, his tour guide took him further out than usual and they ended up less than a foot away from a few whales - one was so large (bigger than the size of a school bus) my fiancé nearly had a mini-heart attack!

I honestly could not speak highly enough about my time at the Grand Wailea. In fact, we enjoyed our stay so much that we didn't leave the hotel once! We will definitely be back at some point and would recommend this to anyone and everyone.

Next year for our honeymoon we are heading to Mexico, staying at the new Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen. We're hoping this is just as amazing as our trip to Maui and have heard great things about Playa del Carmen. Have any of you visited? I'd love to hear your recommendations on activities to do and places to eat at.

Hope you are all having a great week.
