postnatal skincare routine

Pregnancy wreaked havoc with my skin and for the nine months that Harper was baking away, my skin was all over the place. It started out on the drier side, but by the time I reached my second trimester I started to break out with hormonal acne which continued to get worse until after I gave birth.

I thought my skin would clear up straight away, but unfortunately that wasn't the case and I was left with combination skin - patches of hormonal acne around my mouth and chin, pigmentation and dryness on the sides of my face.

It is only now (two months after giving birth) that my skin is finally starting to clear up, which I believe comes down to my skincare routine.

I have always believed in investing in quality skincare, so have tested many brands throughout the years. One of the brands that I keep coming back to is Alpha-H.

Their Liquid Gold product is my holy grail skincare item - the one product that I never want to be without! Alpha-H call Liquid Gold a "serum", however I use it more like an exfoliating toner (apply after your cleanser and before any serums or moisturisers).

Their moisturisers are also great - the day cream with SPF is lovely and feels so light on the skin and the night cream is thick but melts into your skin right away and has a fresh peppermint scent. One thing I love about Alpha-H products is that most contain active ingredients to help improve your skin - I am never scared of a slight tingle in my skincare products!

I roughly follow skincare guru Caroline Hirons routine - cleanse, acid exfoliate, hydrating toner, eye cream, serum and/or moisturiser, depending on how my skin feels each night.

Morning:

  • Cleanse with Clarins One Step Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser
  • Acid exfoliate with Clearasil Ultra Rapid Action Pads
  • Moisturise eyes with Origins Gin-Zing Refreshing Eye Cream
  • Moisturise face with Alpha-H Daily Essential Moisturiser SPF30+

Evening:

  • Remove makeup with Garner Micellar Water
  • Second cleanse with Chanel Cleansing Mousse using my Clarisonic (I swap this out for Proactiv Step 1 Cleanser when I have a breakout)
  • Acid exfoliate with Alpha-H Liquid Gold (alternate evenings)
  • Moisturise eyes with Napoleon Perdis Supreme Eye Cream
  • Moisturise face with Alpha-H Essential Hydration Cream (this comes in a tub which releases the product by clicking the top down - I love this type of packaging as it is so hygienic)

Weekly:

  • GlamGlow YouthMud Tinglexfoliate Treatment (this mask makes my skin SO radiant after a big night out or before a special event)
  • Kora Organics Hydrating Mask (I apply this once per week to rehydrate my skin, even if I am in the middle of a breakout - it is great at hydrating, refining pores and promoting healthy tissue rejuvenation all at the same time)
  • Ole Henrikson Lemon Strip Flash Peel (a professional strength peel which uses an acid combination to dissolve dead skin leaving my face softer than a babies bum! I use this every few weeks as it is quite strong and the results last)
Alpha-H products (as well as many other amazing brands including Napoleon Perdis and Kora Organics) are available to purchase online at Facial Co. I love buying my skincare from Facial Co as it is an Australian owned and operated company (it pays to #shoplocal), offers Afterpay (so you can receive your products straight away but pay for them in four fortnightly instalments), plus they give you some great free samples and often give you free full sized products with purchases over $149.

Their prices are also really great and they will price match if you can find the same product online at a cheaper price. Best of all, Facial Co offers free shipping Australia wide.

What is your holy grail skincare product?
