dreaming of christmas

Giving birth to Harper in December meant I missed out on Christmas last year. Of course we celebrated on the day but we never put our tree up and decorations around the home were sparse.

This year, I have gone all out and I'm so excited to celebrate Harper's second Christmas together as a family.

Some of the traditions I am planning on starting include:

  • Decorating the house together - Harper was still too young to help with decorations this year but next year I can't wait for her to hang some baubles on the tree!
  • Decorating her room - this year I put up a cute mini white Christmas tree in Harper's bedroom decorated in gold, rose gold and pink trimmings. When her Santa Sack arrives it will take pride of place in the middle of the room, right underneath her beautiful tree!
  • Christmas cookie day - there is nothing better than the smell of freshly baked cookies and I can't wait to make a big selection of Christmas cookies this year with my mum and my daughter
  • Christmas cards - next year will be our first Christmas as a family of four so I will be having some beautiful family photos taken and sending them out on Christmas cards to our family and friends. This year I will be taking a photo of Harper myself - I have already picked out the cutest little outfit and bow!
  • December 1 box - the Christmas Eve box has recently started growing in popularity, but this year I have decided to do a December 1 box instead. The premise of this is that you give your children a box full of presents on the first day of December to get them excited for Christmas. I have put a selection of goodies in Harper's box including Christmas pyjamas, a reindeer plate and cup, a Christmas puzzle, one Christmas craft activity we will do together, a few Christmas books and a Peppa Pig Christmas DVD.
  • Christmas lights - I can't wait to take Harper to see all of the beautiful Christmas lights, while I sip on a coffee and hubby enjoys an ice-cream!
  • Christmas eve - growing up I vividly remember going to our church service every Christmas Eve and then coming home for a fun night where we would watch a Christmas movie together, enjoy a roast meal and open one early present from underneath the tree!
  • Christmas breakfast - another tradition I can't wait to pass on to my own family is a Christmas breakfast of fresh fruit and ham and cheese croissants. For as long as I can remember this was the breakfast we would eat on Christmas Day and as a child I looked forward to rushing down the stairs and opening up all of my presents while Dad would make us croissants! Sometime's its the small things that end up being so meaningful.

If you are after some beautiful Christmas presents, cards and homewares make sure you check out Minted. Their range of personalised stockings are amazing - the plaid is my absolute favourite.
