blogmas day one ... our december box

I first attempted blogmas (where you blog every day in the lead up to Christmas) a few years ago and I have decided to attempt it again this year.

Today's post is all about the latest Christmas tradition I have started with a "December box". In the past few years, the trend of gifting a Christmas Eve box to your children the night before Christmas has really picked up. While I love this idea (and growing up we were always allowed to open one present on Christmas Eve), I feel like a December box is a better fit for our family as it will give us a whole month to enjoy the presents and really get into the festive spirit.

The premise of a December box is to help your children learn more about Christmas and celebrate in the lead up to the big day. Given Harper is almost one, I decided to create a simple box with a few fun toys and books that I hope she will love.

For older children, some other ideas include an advent calendar, gingerbread house and cookie cutters.

I picked up most of the pieces from Kmart, but have also seen cute cup and plate sets from Pottery Barn Kids (they even sell a gorgeous baby set with a sippy cup) and most department stores sell a range of Christmas books.

Santa is coming to Perth book from Kmart (not online) - $8
My First Ladybird Christmas Story book from Big W (not online) - $9.95
Wiggles book and floor puzzle from Myer (not online) - $19.95
Elves from a local gift shop

Do you do a December box or Christmas Eve box? What do you include in yours?
